A Bad Luck Cat Mystery, #5

Book cover from The Black Cat Breaks a Mirror by Kay Finch

My Review

Sabrina Tate is a mystery author who also helps out working at her Aunt Rowe’s Around-the-World Cottages in Lavender, Texas. Sabrina lives in one of the cottages with her cat, Hitchcock.

Lavender is busy for Sabrina. Her first book was just released and she has an author chat to attend at Tower of Pizza. Her brother and his two sons are also coming to town because a popular country music star is coming to town for a concert. There is also a life coach staying at the cottages who inspires many locals to make some changes in their life.

During Sabrina’s author chat, a man named Marty Dixon arrives outside the pizza place and Tracey, one of the chat attendees, rushes out and starts a brawl with him. When Sabrina’s nemesis Deputy Rosales arrives to break up the brawl, it is obvious Tracey is not the only one who has outstanding issues with Mr. Dixon. After Dixon is found dead by Sabrina’s nephew and the president of Dixon’s fan club, that list continues to grow. Not only do several townspeople make the list, but so do several people connected with Colt Jamison, the country singer, who is also secretly staying at the cottages. This all makes lots of work for Sabrina and Hitchcock to uncover while trying to find out who killed him.

There was a lot going on in this installment in this series and the writer handled it all well. There was a good balance between investigating the murder while also learning more about some of the recurring characters. The interactions with the life coach were fun, too.

I like Sabrina, her boyfriend Luke, and her family and friends. I’ve enjoyed this whole series and will definitely be back for book six.
